Welcome to a surrogate story – to a pristine and purged diary.

The witch doesn’t burn in this one. Bear with me for it’s a bit raw and undone.

What if Hansel and Grettel weren’t born to a poor father?

What if there wasn’t the quintessential evil step mother?

What if the town wasn’t struck and deserted by a famine?

What if the witch’s house wasn’t so sublime?

Most importantly, what if the witch didn’t invite them inside to feast?

But welcomed them in her life as her fortunate treat?

Maybe that would have spared a woman “the title”.

Legends would remember her more fondly.

But then again, would the story be too ordinary?
