There was a time when tears were shed.
There was a time when condolences were paid.
There was a time when screams were heard.
Alas! All that is replaced with, now, is silence, numbness, and surrender.
We don’t feel helpless about the fatality of the action or hopeful about a possible change anymore.
We don’t debate the pros and cons of second amendment anymore.
We don’t even change our profile pictures on social media anymore.
We are in a state of acceptance.
This acceptance which is an acquittal for the killers who pressed the triggers and for the betrayers, who allowed the triggers.
It’s a “so what” to countless grieving loved ones and a slow death for the force of change in our society.
As a parent, you may shudder with the thought but as we drop our babies in their schools each day, we quietly become part of this state of acquiescence. We slowly bid adieu to memories of those we lost and phlegmatically move on.

85th school shooting took place just yesterday. Yes, school shooting. I take this personal, because I am a mom and I hope you do too. I don’t care which side of the argument/aisle we sit, I do believe that we all are on “saving our kids” side…by whichever means necessary. #LetThereBeTalk #LetThereBeLight #LetThereBeChange
It has sadly become a norm. We talk about it for few days and move on. Playing politics with the lives of our children. 💔

Yes, you are so right. There will be families going through this holiday season with the memories of their loved ones, this state is just not fair to them.

It was just a quick story on the news, blink and you missed it – there is something very wrong with society that it has become so “normal”.

You are so right. My friend said she didn’t even know about it until this morning when I told her. 2 kids killed and we didn’t even take a pause. 😞

The tragic reality of our nation is that we the people have normalized violence–whether it be within our communities, on our southern border, or in our never-ending wars in distant lands.

Sadly true!

My heart is broken … again, and even though it has become a terrible, tragic “norm” in our society, I’m still in shock. And I cannot believe just how seemingly unfeeling so much of society has become … just how desensitized. I understand that one of the students upon exiting the school asked aloud, “What has this world become???” Indeed. And to know that these students had already been drilling for possible deadly attacks… When I was in high school, the though never even crossed my mind that someone ~ least of all another student ~ would burst into the facility firing a gun at us. Again, my heart breaks, and surely something must be done, despite the Second Amendment, despite the NRA.

I feel your pain. That question needs to be asked and answered. We owe it to the kids we bring to this world. 😞

I cannot imagine what life would be like for you all. I’m sorry that this is your norm and I truly hope it changes.

This really hit hard, especially the line that we hardly change our profile pictures anymore in social media..yeah I could feel that..😕

As futile as it was, it actually said we cared. Now not even that.

Powerfully stated Pallavi, and sadly your forthright words are poignantly true……. And I can feel your anguish and futility, at the pathetic attitude of the selfish and arrogant greed of the money based gun lobbyist (it seems they don’t care about the dead children, nor their grieving families)……… here in Australia it’s hard to understand, our anti-gun laws have been in place for over 30 years…….

Ivor, I fail to understand it too. I have friends on both sides of the politics and every one unanimously say that something needs to be done.

It is horrifying to me every time there is a school shooting. I teach in an Elementary school in the mornings and a community college in the evenings. When I was a child, there were no school shootings. It is tragically sad that parents worry about their children and that schools have to put in place security measures. It angers me that nothing is being done to try to prevent it.

Yes now kids have these active shooter drills in schools. That’s our new normal. My kindergartener had it and couldn’t understand the reason.
Hats off to teachers like yourself to help these kids when parents aren’t around.

A moving post indeed!
Ever notice that no matter which party is in the driver’s seat things basically remain the same?
They say one thing and then blame the other side if it doesn’t happen!
You see! They are not really in charge of anything!
They are just hacks, secretly paid to say one thing but do the other. Call them lobbiest, powerful international cartels

Absolutely! In the mean time, there are innocent families getting torn apart. Like I said, I don’t care on which side of the aisle you are, becoming immune to this is sad and unacceptable.
Thank you for commenting!

No way immune to the violent.
Live near Parkland in Florida …
Was in the area when the shootings began.
The Broward County Sheriff knew the shooter was a problem but took no action because his age.
School officials and many of the student’s knew!
A Broward County Sheriff was at the school to protect the student’s. But he did not go into the building to do his job because he was afraid and/or near retirement.
The shooter had been treated for mental issues before.
Somehow he got a gun. So blame it “all” on that gun!
A gun … a bomb … a knife … a car … a machete … whatever … have and are being used worldwide to kill innocent people and students! By terrorists, psychos, the quiet man next door, those damn $&**#!
Illinois has gun control laws.
Chicago has strong gun control laws!
Chicago is maybe the murder capital of America!
It’s a societal issue as much as just a gun issue!
It’s basically the man … not just the gun!
But ‘worldview and politics’ will always prevail!

Extremely sorry you had to go through that.
I sincerely respect your opinions. Difference of opinion and respectful disagreements are an integral part of a progressive society.
No matter what are method/solution is to stop this insanity, something needs to be done. 🙏

So sad and true. Many people suffer with the consequences long after the rest of us forget. Something to be more mindful of for sure.
